The December 2025 Flood:
Impacts, repairs, and the future – which looks good!
In December of 2025, the entire state of Washington was hit hard with an atmospheric river which caused major flooding throughout the state. Stehekin was certainly not immune to the effects of that weather pattern. The flooding was impressive, leaving impacts felt throughout the Valley.
However, most of the waters receded quickly, and within hours of the main event, residents and crews started the process of cleaning up. Many repairs have already been accomplished, and improvements continue every day. The road is open from the Landing to the Ranch. Beyond the Ranch is still covered in snow, but it is expected to be fully open to High Bridge this summer. Both the Bakery and the Ranch are in good shape, and will be fully open by Memorial Weekend, with the Bakery expected to open earlier in the Spring.

This photo shows the current status of a section of road which was completely washed out during the December flood. The power pole is brand new. The old one – along with the ground under it – was washed away into Lake Chelan. Local crews had the missing ground filled in within a week, and the PUD restored power immediately after that. The best way to support this resilient community right now is simple: JUST COME ENJOY STEHEKIN. Book your vacations now and help keep the magic alive!

Local school kids walking on a makeshift “trail”. The Company Creek Road is well to the left of them, and the Stehekin River should be to the left of that road. As you can see, the water has chosen a new path, wiping out the road and making itself at home running through the road, the woods, and private property.
On the residential side of the valley, repairs are more complicated, requiring permission from various government agencies before work can begin. A campaign is underway seeking support from the appropriate agencies to allow the necessary work to get done ASAP – which will let local residents to breathe easier, and prepare for future work to keep the river in it’s historical banks. If you want to learn more about the issue being discussed and why it is so important to get the work done before the spring run-off hits, you can learn more using the button links below. If you want to help, please reach out to state and federal representatives/senators to support taking action before it is too late.
